Tips!
Hiring a General Contractor:
- Contact your local or state BBB or other consumer protection agency and make
sure the contractor is free of complaints or problems.
- Always ask the contractor to give you at least two customer references from people
with projects similar to yours.
- Get a copy of the contractor's insurance certificates and make sure they are current!
- Get written estimates from at least two companies and make sure their project
specifications are the same.
- Get a written contract that specifies the COMPLETE scope of work, materials, etc.
as well as any warranties, and start/completion dates.
- Once the job begins, stay involved! Check the progress day to day and work with
your contractor to resolve issues as they arise!
